Costume UK Summer School

Duration - 3 weeks

This is an ideal opportunity to learn all about British costume from the17th to 20th century. You will examine authentic garments, learn the terminology used by costume designers and develop your drawing skills.

Specialist collections not available to the general public will be on display and you will meet conservationists who will show you rare and precious historical costumes.

Lectures on pattern cutting and sewing techniques used throughout each period will help shape your knowledge. Costume lecturers will demonstrate tailoring and flat tacking techniques.

Specialist sessions will allow you to explore the evolution of male clothing and how fashion and costume catered to the social and emotional needs of the wearers.

Kensington Palace London

  • A visit to the ‘Royal Dress Collection’ offers insight into the story of the British monarchy

Bath Costume Museum

  • Conservation specialist will allow you to handle the garments and discuss how they were constructed

West End Theatre Back- Stage Tour

  • Gives insight into make-up, lighting A set and wardrobe tour

London Costume House

  • View original costumes used in movies such as the ‘Titanic’ and ‘The Other Boleyn Girl’. Hunt through collections of; fur, armoury, sunglasses, jewellery and prosthetic make-up pieces
